Devotion 2: The Lamb Who Baptizes with the Holy Spirit
Scripture Reading: John 1:33 – “He who sent me to baptize with water said to me, ‘He on whom you see the Spirit descend and remain, this is he who baptizes with the Holy Spirit.’” (ESV)
Reflection:
John the Baptist’s mission was to prepare the way for Jesus, the One who would do far more than baptize with water. Jesus, the Lamb of God, brings the promised Holy Spirit to all who believe in Him. The Old Testament longed for the day when God’s Spirit would be poured out on all His people (Joel 2:28), and through Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection, that day has come. At Pentecost, the Holy Spirit came upon believers, empowering them to live for Christ and proclaim His gospel (Acts 2:1-4).
If you are in Christ, the Holy Spirit dwells in you—not as a second blessing to seek, but as a gift already given through Jesus’ finished work. The Spirit strengthens you, guides you, and assures you that you belong to God. Today, rest in the truth that the Lamb of God has not only forgiven your sins but has given you His Spirit to live a life that glorifies Him.
Application:
Reflect on how the Holy Spirit has worked in your life—perhaps through conviction, guidance, or boldness to share your faith. Ask God to help you rely on the Spirit’s power today, especially in a specific situation where you need His wisdom or strength.
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, thank You for being the Lamb who baptizes with the Holy Spirit. I am grateful for Your Spirit’s presence in my life, guiding and empowering me. Help me to walk in step with Your Spirit today, living for Your glory. In Your holy name, Amen.
