Devotion on What Jesus Gives: Grace Upon Grace as Children of God
Scripture: John 1:15-18 (ESV) “(John bore witness about him, and cried out, ‘This was he of whom I said, “He who comes after me ranks before me, because he was before me.”‘) For from his fullness we have all received, grace upon grace. For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. No one has ever seen God; the only God, who is at the Father’s side, he has made him known.”
Brothers and sisters, marvel at what Jesus gives: the right to be children of God! Not by bloodline, human will, or works—it’s God’s gift to believers. He came, adding flesh to His divinity, fulfilling righteousness, dying for us, rising again. From Him flows grace upon grace!
Moses brought the Law, revealing sin like a mirror shows filth, but it couldn’t save. Jesus, greater than Moses, reveals God fully. We don’t see the backside of the Father’s glory, we see the fullness of God in Jesus Christ. We’re finite sinners, separated from infinite holiness, but Jesus bridges that gap, granting eternal life to those who believe (John 5:24).
We don’t come to God by works. Salvation is through faith in the finished work of Christ. Free from sin’s burden, we’re God’s family forever. Trust in Him! Trust in the Creator of all things that took on human flesh, dwelt among us, and died for our sins.
Application: Thank God for adopting you through faith.
Prayer: Jesus, thank You for grace upon grace and making me Your child. Free me from works and help me live in Your eternal life. Amen.
