Devotion 3: Instructing in the Lord’s Ways
Scripture: Ephesians 6:4 – “Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.”
Reflection:
The sermon underscores that fathers are called to actively instruct their children in the ways of the Lord, passing down a spiritual legacy. This means more than just teaching rules; it involves teaching them the Scriptures and how it applies to their lives. It also involves modeling a life devoted to Christ through prayer, Scripture, and godly living. Your children learn about God’s character by watching you. Are you reading the Bible together? Are you teaching them how to live a godly life? Are you showing them what it means to trust God daily? By sharing God’s Word and living it out, you help your children build a foundation that withstands life’s challenges.
Application:
Commit to one practical way to instruct your children in the Lord this week, such as reading a Bible story together, praying as a family, or sharing how God has worked in your life. Encourage open conversations about faith, showing your children that God is real and present.
Prayer:
Father God, thank You for Your Word that guides us. Help me to teach my children Your truth through my words and actions. May my life reflect Your love and faithfulness, inspiring them to follow You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
