Devotion 2: The Promise That Never Fades
Scripture: Galatians 3:15-18
Reflection:
Out on the dock at the Post Office, sweating in the Arkansas heat, I’d hear “I Fought the Law” blaring on the radio. The law in that song always won. God’s Law wins as well, but it has a different purpose—it leads us to His promise. Paul reminds us that God’s covenant with Abraham, made 430 years before the Law at Sinai, was never canceled. Abraham believed God, and it was “counted to him as righteousness” (Galatians 3:6). That promise wasn’t about keeping rules; it was about faith in God’s plan—a plan fulfilled in Jesus, the singular “seed” through whom all nations are blessed.
Think about that. Long before the Law, God’s promise stood firm. It wasn’t about what Abraham could do; it was about what God would do through Christ. Today, we see that promise clearly—Jesus lived perfectly, died for our sins, and rose again. Our salvation isn’t earned by works; it’s received by faith in that same promise. When life feels heavy, rest in this: God’s promise to save through Christ is as sure today as it was for Abraham. The same Abraham that believed and was counted righteous.
Application:
Take a moment to thank God for His unchanging promise. Write down one way you’re tempted to rely on your own efforts instead of trusting Christ’s finished work. Confess that to God, and ask Him to help you rest in His promise of salvation through faith.
Prayer:
Father, thank You for Your promise that stands forever. Thank You that my salvation rests on Jesus, not my works. Help me trust in Your promise today and live in the freedom of Your grace. Amen.
