Devotion 3: Faith Like Abraham
Scripture: Galatians 3:6-9
Key Verse: “Know then that it is those of faith who are the sons of Abraham.” (Galatians 3:7, ESV)
Reflection:
Paul points to Abraham as the example of faith, credited with righteousness not because of his works but because he believed God (Galatians 3:6). The sermon emphasizes that, like Abraham, we are justified by faith alone, not by what our hands have done. Abraham was not circumcised. He did nothing to earn this righteousness. He believed God and was counted as righteous. And it is the same for us. The hymn reminds us: “Not what I feel or do can give me peace with God.” This challenges us to stop striving for approval and instead trust God’s promise of salvation through Christ. As sons and daughters of Abraham, our faith connects us to God’s family, blessed through Jesus’ finished work.
Application:
We are always tempted to work for this gift of eternal life. Remind yourself that Christ accomplished this salvation apart from you. And you received it with the empty hand of faith.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for making me Your child through faith, like Abraham. Help me to trust Your promises and rest in Christ’s finished work. May my faith shine as a testimony of Your grace to others. Amen.
