The One Gospel Message Straight From Jesus
Scripture: Galatians 1:11-12 (ESV)
“For I would have you know, brothers, that the gospel that was preached by me is not man’s gospel. For I did not receive it from any man, nor was I taught it, but I received it through a revelation of Jesus Christ.”
Reflection:
Paul’s defense of the gospel in Galatians reminds us that the good news of salvation is not a human invention but a divine revelation. The Judaizers in Galatia tried to add human requirements, like circumcision, to the gospel, but Paul boldly declared that he received his message directly from Jesus Christ. Just as Paul was taught by Christ over three years, the disciples also learned from Jesus during His earthly ministry. This unity in the gospel’s source assures us that there is one true message of salvation, unchanging and eternal. The message is that our salvation was achieved by Jesus alone. Through His perfect life, death, and resurrection He accomplished our justification. And all we do to take hold of it is trust in Jesus Christ. Today, we face similar challenges from false teachings that add or subtract from the gospel. Paul’s example encourages us to trust in the pure gospel delivered by Christ.
Application:
Reflect on whether you’ve been tempted to add your own efforts or rules to the gospel, thinking they make you more acceptable to God. Examine the messages you hear in your church or culture—are they aligned with the gospel Paul preached? Spend time in prayer, asking God to help you trust in Christ’s finished work alone for your salvation.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for the gospel revealed through Your Son, Jesus Christ. Protect me from false teachings that distort Your truth. Help me to rest in the assurance that my salvation comes from Christ alone, not my own works. May I boldly share this gospel with others, giving You all the glory. Amen.
