The Messenger and the Message Devotion: Delivered from the Present Evil Age (Galatians 1:4)
Scripture Reading: Galatians 1:4 (ESV)
“[Jesus Christ] who gave himself for our sins to deliver us from the present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father.”
Reflection:
Jesus’ sacrifice not only secures our forgiveness but also delivers us from the “present evil age” ruled by sin and Satan. As Christians, we are transferred from the kingdom of this world to the Kingdom of Christ. One example of this, that was used in the sermon, is pornography’s destructive grip on a large portion of today’s population. The world’s systems enslaves people, but Christ’s victory frees us from such bondage. This deliverance is not just about future hope. It impacts us now. It empowers us to live differently in this world. We are no longer slaves to sin and this world. We are freed from bondage to sin and Satan and empowered to live for the Lord. We are called and empowered to reflect His kingdom in this dark world. This truth gives us hope and strength to resist temptation and live victoriously through Christ and for Christ.
Application:
Reflect on a habit or influence in your life that feels like it pulls you toward the “present evil age” (e.g., media, materialism, or a specific sin). Confess it to God and ask for His strength to live in the freedom Christ provides. Take one practical step today to resist this influence, such as setting boundaries or replacing it with a God-honoring activity (e.g., prayer, Scripture reading). Encourage a fellow believer by sharing how Christ has given you victory in an area of struggle.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for sending Jesus to deliver me from the evil of this world. I confess my struggles with [name specific sin or influence] and ask for Your strength to live in the freedom of Your Kingdom. Help me walk in victory through Christ and reflect Your light in a dark world. Thank You for making me Your own. Amen.
