The Messenger and the Message Devotion: Grace and Peace Through Christ Alone (Galatians 1:3-4)
Scripture Reading: Galatians 1:3-4a (ESV)
“Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ, who gave himself for our sins.”
Reflection:
Paul’s greeting of “grace and peace” encapsulates the heart of the gospel, as highlighted in the sermon: salvation is through Christ alone, not through human works or added requirements like the Jewish laws pushed by the Judaizers. Grace is God’s unmerited favor, freely given through Jesus’ perfect life, death, and resurrection. Peace is the wholeness we experience in restored relationship with God. The sermon reminds us that we cannot earn salvation; it is a gift from our Triune God. God the Father sent His Son for our salvation. In a world that pressures us to prove our worth, this truth invites us to rest in Christ’s finished work and find true peace.
Application:
Identify one area where you feel pressured to “earn” God’s approval (e.g., through good deeds, religious routines, or perfectionism). Write down a reminder that your salvation is secure in Christ alone. Today, thank Jesus for His sacrifice. And share this message of grace with someone who seems burdened by striving for God’s approval by their own works.
Prayer:
Dear Jesus, thank You for giving Yourself for my sins and granting me grace and peace. Forgive me for the times I try to earn Your love through my own efforts. Help me rest in Your finished work and experience the peace of being reconciled to God. Use me to share Your grace with others today. Amen.
