The Messenger and the Message Devotion: Trusting God’s Word (Galatians 1:1)
Scripture Reading: Galatians 1:1 (ESV)
“Paul, an apostle—not from men nor through man, but through Jesus Christ and God the Father, who raised him from the dead.”
Reflection:
Paul had a unique calling, directly commissioned by Jesus Christ after his dramatic encounter on the road to Damascus. The Judaizers in Galatia questioned Paul’s authority to discredit his message of salvation through Christ alone. Paul’s divine appointment reminds us that God chose specific messengers to deliver His truth.
Today, we are faced with false teachings or opinions that claim authority but lack God’s backing. They oppose God’s Word. Paul’s example encourages us to trust the Scriptures, inspired by God through His chosen servants, and to discern truth carefully. Just as Paul was set apart for a purpose, God calls each of us to trust and share His gospel faithfully.
Application:
Reflect on a recent teaching or opinion you’ve encountered (online, in conversation, or elsewhere) that seemed to contradict the gospel. Compare it to the truth of Scripture, particularly Paul’s message in Galatians. Read Galatians 1:1-10 and think about Paul’s defense of his authority. Pray for discernment and consider how you can affirm the gospel’s truth in your conversations this week.
Prayer:
Lord God, thank You for choosing Paul as Your apostle to proclaim the gospel. Help me trust the authority of Your Word and discern truth from falsehood. Give me courage to stand firm in the message of salvation through Christ alone and to share it with others.
