Devotion 1: The Lamb Who Takes Away Our Sin

Scripture Reading: John 1:29 – “The next day he saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, ‘Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!’” (ESV)

Reflection:
John the Baptist’s cry, “Behold, the Lamb of God,” is a declaration that changes everything. Jesus is not just a teacher or a prophet—He is the Lamb, the perfect sacrifice who takes away the sin of the world. Every one of us has rebelled against God, earning His righteous wrath. Yet, Jesus, the eternal Son of God, took on human flesh, lived a sinless life, and died on the cross to bear the punishment we deserve. His blood, shed at Golgotha, cleanses us from sin, just as the Passover lamb’s blood spared the Israelites from judgment (Exodus 12:3-13).

This truth demands a response. Will you look to the Lamb and trust in Him? Will you believe in His name, knowing that His sacrifice is sufficient to remove your sin and shield you from God’s judgment? Let today be a moment to reflect on the weight of your sin and the greater weight of Christ’s love poured out for you.

Application:
Spend a few moments confessing your sins to God, knowing that Jesus, the Lamb, has already paid for them. Thank Him for His sacrifice and ask for strength to trust Him more fully.

Prayer:
Heavenly Father, I stand in awe of Your Son, the Lamb of God, who took away my sin. Thank You for His sacrifice on the cross, bearing my shame and guilt. Help me to trust in Him alone for salvation and to live a life that honors His great love. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
