Devotion 2: Jesus, Our Eternal Priest
Scripture: Psalm 110:4 (ESV)
The LORD has sworn and will not change his mind, “You are a priest forever after the order of Melchizedek.”
Reflection:
Have you ever felt the weight of your sin and wondered if God’s forgiveness could truly cover it all? Psalm 110:4 declares that Jesus is our eternal Priest, after the order of Melchizedek, who offered Himself once for all to atone for our sins. Unlike the priests of old who offered repeated sacrifices, Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross was complete—finished! He sat down at the right hand of God, His work done, securing salvation for all who trust in Him. God Himself swore that this priesthood would last forever, so you can rest assured that your sins are forgiven, and your salvation is secure. Christian, let this truth lift the burden of guilt and fill you with joy.
Application:
Spend a few minutes meditating on Hebrews 7:25, which says Jesus “is able to save to the uttermost those who draw near to God through Him.” Write down any sins or doubts weighing on you, then thank God that Jesus’ priesthood covers them completely. Consider how this assurance can free you to serve Him joyfully today.
Prayer:
Great High Priest, thank You for Your once-for-all sacrifice that cleanses me from all sin. Help me to rest in Your finished work and to live with the confidence that my salvation is secure. May my life reflect Your grace and bring You glory. Amen.
