Devotion 2: Hope in the God of Salvation

Scripture: Psalm 88:10-12
“Will you show wonders to the dead? Shall those who are deceased arise and praise you? Shall your steadfast love be declared in the grave, or your faithfulness in Abaddon? Shall your wonders be known in the darkness, or your righteousness in the land of forgetfulness?”

Reflection:
Heman’s questions in Psalm 88 point to a profound truth: only the living can praise God and declare His wonders. And Heman, a well-known singer among the people of Israel feels as if he is the dead among the living. Will he ever rise from this to praise the Lord? The sermon encourages us to look to the God of our salvation, who ultimately delivers us through Christ’s victory over sin and death. Even in our darkest moments, we have hope because Jesus endured the ultimate darkness on the cross to secure our salvation. This hope sustains us, reminding us that God’s steadfast love endures forever.

Application:
Spend time reflecting on the hope of salvation through Jesus Christ. Let this hope fuel your worship, knowing that God’s salvation is certain.

Prayer:
Lord Jesus, thank You for enduring the cross to bring me salvation. In my darkest moments, remind me of Your steadfast love and the hope of eternity with You. Help me to praise You today and share Your wonders with others. Amen.
