Look to the God of Your Salvation Devotion #1
Devotion 1: Persistent Prayer in the Darkness
Scripture: Psalm 88:1-2, 9b
“O LORD, God of my salvation, I cry out day and night before you. Let my prayer come before you; incline your ear to my cry! … Every day I call upon you, O LORD; I spread out my hands to you.”
Reflection:
Psalm 88 is a raw cry from a place of deep despair, where Heman pours out his heart to God without receiving immediate relief. The sermon emphasizes that even in unrelenting pain, Heman persists in prayer, addressing God as the “God of my salvation.” This teaches us that prayer is not just a means to an end but an act of faith, trusting that God hears us even when answers seem distant. When life feels overwhelming, we are called to keep crying out to God, knowing He is present in our suffering.
Application:
Reflect on a situation in your life where you feel stuck or unheard. Instead of turning away, commit to bringing your pain to God daily, even if it feels repetitive. Write down a short prayer expressing your struggles and trust, and pray it each morning this week. Trust that God is listening, even if the resolution isn’t immediate.
Prayer:
Lord, God of my salvation, I bring my burdens to You today. Though I may not see Your answers yet, help me to persist in prayer, trusting in Your goodness. Hear my cry and strengthen my faith. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
