Devotion 1: The Law’s Mirror and the Savior’s Grace

Scripture: Galatians 3:19-24

Reflection:
I had a lot of pimples as a teenager. I remember spending a lot of time looking into the bathroom mirror and finding the next pimple to eliminate. That mirror showed every smudge and flaw on my face, and it wasn’t kind about it. God’s Law is like that mirror. It doesn’t flatter us; it shows us our sin, our failures, and our desperate need for a Savior. Paul tells us in Galatians that the Law was given “because of transgressions” (Galatians 3:19), not to make us righteous, but to reveal how far we’ve fallen. It’s like a guardian, always pointing out where we’ve gone wrong, until it drives us to Christ. The Law beats us down, not to destroy us, but to lead us to the only One who can save us—Jesus.

When you look into God’s Law, what do you see? Do you see your own goodness? Or do you see your need for a Savior? The Law was never meant to save; it was meant to show us our sin and point us to Jesus, who took our punishment and gave us His righteousness. Let the Law do its work today—let it drive you to the cross, where grace abounds.

Application:
Spend a moment reflecting on one area of your life where God’s Law reveals your shortcomings. Maybe it’s a harsh word spoken, a selfish thought, or a moment of pride. Don’t stay in that guilt. Look to Jesus, who bore that sin on the cross. Thank Him for His grace, and ask for strength to walk in His righteousness today.

Prayer:
Lord, thank You for Your holy Law that shows me my sin. Thank You even more for Jesus, who fulfilled the Law and took my punishment. Help me to run to Him daily, trusting in His grace alone. Amen.
