Devotion 1: Avoid Provocation in Parenting
Scripture: Ephesians 6:4 – “Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.”
Reflection:
As fathers, the call to avoid provoking our children to anger is a reminder of the power our words and actions hold. The sermon emphasizes that harshness, unreasonable demands, or neglect can stir resentment in a child’s heart, distancing them from both their parents and God. Instead, we are called to model Christ’s patience and love. Reflect on how your interactions with your children set clear or unclear boundaries. And also consider how this has affected your interaction with your children. Are there moments when frustration leads to harsh words? Is it because you did not set the boundaries and expectations that your children need.
Application:
Identify one way you might unintentionally provoke your children—perhaps through overly strict rules or lack of attention—and commit to addressing that. Give thought and prayer in that and move your family in the proper direction.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for Your patient love toward me. Help me to parent my children well. Help me to give my children the structure that they need to be raised to honor You. Fill me with Your wisdom to create a home where love and peace abound. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
