No Other Gospel Devotion #1: Clinging to the True Gospel (Galatians 1:6-7)

Scripture: Galatians 1:6-7 (ESV)
“I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting him who called you in the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel—not that there is another one, but there are some who trouble you and want to distort the gospel of Christ.”

Reflection:
Paul was shocked at how quickly the Galatians turned from the true gospel to a distorted version. This “different gospel” promised salvation through works, not grace, and led them away from Christ. Today, we face similar temptations—subtle messages that suggest we must earn God’s love or add to Christ’s finished work. The true gospel is simple yet profound: salvation is by grace through faith in Jesus alone. Jesus accomplished salvation for us through His perfect life, death, and resurrection. When we cling to this truth, we find freedom and peace, unburdened by the need to perform for God’s approval.

Application:
Reflect on your spiritual life. Are there areas where you’re trying to earn God’s favor through good deeds, religious rituals, or moral performance? Identify one way you’ve been tempted to stray from the gospel of grace (e.g., feeling unworthy unless you “do enough”). Write down a reminder of Ephesians 2:8-9 to keep visible this week, and thank God daily for His free gift of salvation.

Prayer:
Father, thank You for the gospel of grace that saves me through faith in Jesus. Forgive me for times I’ve drifted toward false gospels that demand my works. Help me to rest in Your grace and share this truth with others. Keep my heart anchored to Your Word. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
