Children, A Heritage From The Lord: Devotion Three From The Sermon “Trust The Lord And Work” (Psalm 127)
Scripture: Psalm 127:3-5 – “Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb a reward. Like arrows in the hand of a warrior are the children of one’s youth. Blessed is the man who fills his quiver with them!”
Reflection: In a world that often sees children as a burden, Psalm 127 declares they’re a blessing—a heritage from the Lord. As parents, we’re not just raising kids; we’re shaping arrows to be launched into the world for God’s glory. This takes work: teaching them to love Jesus, correcting their foolishness, and preparing them to stand firm in faith. But it’s work worth doing, because God has entrusted these souls to us.
God gives us the children, and He gives us the strength to raise them. When you’re in the trenches of diapers or teenage rebellion, it’s easy to lose sight of the eternal purpose. But every prayer, every Bible story, every hard conversation is an investment into the children God gave you. Those children are image bearer’s of God who will one day spend an eternity either in Heaven or Hell. And God uses your work as their parents to bring them to faith in Christ and grow them to be more like Christ.
Application: Choose one way to intentionally invest in your child’s faith this week (e.g., read a Bible story together, pray with them, or share a testimony of God’s faithfulness). If you don’t have children, pray for the children in your church or community.
Prayer: Father, thank You for the gift of my children. They are Yours, and I’m humbled to steward them. Give me wisdom and strength to raise them for Your glory. Use them as arrows to advance Your kingdom. In Christ’s name, Amen.
